What do you do at IYC?

I am a volunteer counsellor mostly in the New Forest, occasionally at Totton.

I see young people once they have had their counselling assessment and then meet with them to offer a space to talk and explore anything that would be helpful for them.  They are primarily offered 6 sessions, but this could be less or a few more depending on their need.

What attracted you to volunteering at IYC?

I first came to IYC looking for a counselling placement which was a requirement for my training course and I very much wanted to work with young people as I had been supporting students at Brockenhurst College and had seen the need for this service.

IYC also impressed me with the continual training courses that were available to me and the passion and interest of the staff that seemed apparent.

What do you do outside of volunteering?

Outside of my IYC volunteering, I also provide counselling with the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in the New Forest and have a private practice.

And outside of all that I attempt to paint, garden, walk, spend time with family and friends and little grandchildren – all these I enjoy and a lot more – but there are only 24 hours in a day!!!
