- Job Title:
- Chief Executive Officer
I’m a qualified manager (MBA, DMS, Prince2) and social worker (CQSW). I’ve spent 40 years directly or indirectly supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged young people.
I started working as a local authority social worker in North West London in the 1970’s, then moved to the charity “Shaftesbury Young People” where I was children’s services director for 25 years before becoming Development Director at education charity “ContinYou”. In these roles I designed, developed and managed a wide range of services for young people all over the Country.
I feel hugely fortunate and privileged to have had such a richly varied career doing what I enjoy most.
What do you do at IYC?
I’m the Chief Executive responsible for overall management and development of the charity on behalf of the trustees. It involves pretty much everything!
What attracted you to working at IYC?
In 2014, after years of working for larger national charities I made a conscious decision to finish my career working for a smaller, community based youth charity. I’m so glad I did!
IYC does great work, it has a great team of Trustees, volunteers and staff, and I get to spend a lot more time listening and talking to young people. Their resilience and human spirit often in the face of real disadvantage is inspiring!
What do you do outside of work?
The usual – I like travelling, theatre, cinema, eating out. I play tennis and badminton. I do Tai Chi. I’m also starting to get into mindfulness!
