- Job Title:
- Volunteer Youth Adviser
I trained and qualified as a Careers Adviser in 1986-88, had a long career carrying out various practitioner and manager roles with a Careers Service/company based in the far South West, before taking redundancy and moving back to my original home area of the New Forest in March 2015.
What do you do at IYC?
I am a Volunteer Youth Adviser and I focus on providing careers advice for 16+.
This involves helping young people with work search, CVs, interview preparation and keeping in touch with colleges, training providers and support services.
I currently work on a project with young people who are 16/17 and NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training), operating from locations in Ringwood and Fordingbridge.
What attracted you to volunteering at IYC?
I wanted to maintain my skills and to work with young people for a New Forest, youth and community based organisation.
What do you do outside of volunteering at IYC?
I volunteer for my local Food Bank and do exams invigilating in schools. I like sports – especially football and cricket.
