Back in the summer It’s Your Choice was lucky enough to purchase a portacabin from Storage on Site to give us some much needed space for our Back on Track project.

Having come straight from a building site the cabin needed some TLC and a team of staff, volunteers and young people rolled up their sleeves to transform it into a relaxing work space not just for Back on Track, but other projects, meetings, and IYC services.

Chris Carey, CEO of IYC, says;

“We are pleased to have new space at It’s Your Choice HQ from which to deliver our services. At the end of our lovely garden the portacabin is kitted out with desks, work spaces, and furnishings where we can deliver 1:1 and small group work with young people.

It is particularly useful in connection with our Back on Track project which aims to help older young people who have multiple, in some cases chronic, needs to re-focus their lives through a targeted programme combining ASDAN short course training and emotional/practical support.”

Back on Track Coordinator, Julie Henry, adds;

“We have created a holistic space with two areas – one is a more chilled space where the young people can relax and spend time involved in craft activities and a separate area for teaching and studying for the Asdan short course qualifications.”

It’s Your Choice is very grateful to everyone who got involved in the transformation by helping with cleaning or donating items to make the space more welcoming. IYC would also like to thank local electrician, Tim Carr, who installed electricity to the cabin so that it has heating and lighting and can be used all year round.

There is still much work to be done on the portacabin, including putting in flooring such as carpet tiles, and any support from the local community to do this would be gratefully received.

Everyone at It’s Your Choice would like to say a big thank you to Storage on Site for supplying, delivering, and installing our portacabin!

We’ll be using the extra space to give us more room for our projects, to start with our Back on Track project, and we’re looking forward to decorating the portacabin and making it a welcoming place for our young people to be.

Last week we got our new project, Back on Track, off to a great start by taking a group of young people to Trinity Church West Totton to make a three course meal as their first challenge.

Back on Track is a brand new two year training and wraparound support programme to help mostly 18-21 year olds (a few are older) from across the New Forest. Find out more about our Back on Track programme.

Our Back on Track project is currently working with six young people to provide accredited awards and certificates training (ASDAN Leadership Short Course) in an informal setting through a series of challenges and projects.

The young people on the programme have multiple and complex issues, so our main focus is on personal and social development and building self-esteem. We know that these young people are worth something, even if their own confidence is low, and we want to help them achieve their full potential.

Here’s what the group put together: Melon Balls, Breaded Mozzarella Balls, and Banoffee Pie! Next week the group is starting a bigger project – planning and carrying out the redecoration of a room at IYC.
