Support Us by Buying from Co-op!

We have been selected to receive funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund. It means that we will get a contribution towards our Domestic Abuse Awareness Project. But we need your help. The more support we get, the more funding we could receive. So if you’re a Co-op Member log in to your Co-op Membership account and choose us. If you’re not a member, please join and support us!

What is the It’s Your Choice Domestic Abuse Awareness Project?

Starting in May 2017 and running for 6-8 weeks and two one off sessions our Domestic Abuse Awareness Project aims to raise awareness of safer, healthy relationships, domestic violence and abuse, appropriate language and behaviour in relationships, and relationship boundaries.

We have already had a pilot session which had very positive feedback from the young women who attended. The course will be delivered to single sex groups of 6-8 young people and the one off sessions to larger, mixed sex groups in local colleges or schools.

Our pilot session came about after we witnessed a number of concerning behaviours from young people in our drop-in sessions, both male and female.

We held the session with four young women who found the session very beneficial and have requested further sessions. Their feedback included, “The session taught me a lot about how we should be treated as a partner.” and “I really enjoyed the sessions as they made it fun. It’s good to be able to talk to them about relationship problems.

Benefits to course attendees include raised self-esteem, personal awareness and assertiveness. Wider benefits include attendees being able to spread awareness via their peer networks through the local community.
